Walking alongside Samburu pastoralist society in the drylands of Kenya

Strengthening the resilience of Samburu pastoralists in Opiroi with camels, movable-frame beekeeping and early warning information.

Objective: to strengthen the resilience of Samburu pastoralist communities in the arid and semi-arid lands of Kenya by improving animal husbandry, beekeeping and early warning information. The project aims to improve the genetics of local camel breeds by introducing a small herd from Somalia, and to strengthen pastoralists' management skills. At the same time it consolidates beekeeping, moving to movable-frame hives and involving local women.
