Between Fada N'Gourma and Diapaga, 150 women, most of them displaced, learn to process and preserve what they produce.
The project is the next step of the work with displaced women in Fada N’Gourma and extends it to Diapaga, in Tapoa province, creating an axis between the two towns that brings together the skills of the association VIVAVI, in agroecology and fish farming, and those of the association RNB, in primary production and environmental management. In Fada, at the Bougui site, the work moves from production alone to processing and preservation: a small facility with four solar dryers and two low-consumption ovens for smoking fish, training for 75 women in hygiene, drying and smoking, and the building of improved clay household stoves that use 30 to 40% less firewood. In Diapaga, where insecurity rules out permanent structures, another 75 women will learn soil-less gardening in bags, the processing of non-timber forest products and soap making, guided by trainers chosen from within the community itself, who can move without the restrictions placed on outside staff. Radio broadcasts in local languages will carry the project’s messages beyond the participants. In all, 150 women are involved, with priority given to internally displaced people, and through them about 765 family members.
